Prtty Ridiculous “Hollywood Lies”

Prtty Ridiculous is nothing about making fun of oneself or being ridiculous in other’s consumption. The name itself sees to be a commentary or a reminder of the ridicule we are so accustomed in that we lost the ability to see what’s beyond that. In “Hollywood Lies,” Prtty Ridiculous tears off the shiny, glorious wall paper and shows you the vanity of a materialistic, fame-chasing City of Angels. Absurdism meets dark pop and psychedelic in an unexpected way, evoking spine-tingling, thought-provoking social commentary.

Prtty Ridiculous delves deep into the dystopian aspect of Hollywood. It’s interesting how the unique combination of pop, industrial, grunge, and psychedelic produces almost a futuristic, sci-fi flair. That, itself is a very interesting concept because despite how we’d like to imagine it happening in the future, the creation is deep rooted in the dysfunctional, almost ridiculous aspects of life we already live in. Through the lens of a 1970s novelty loft, the music video of “Hollywood Lies” provides a visual presentation to the storytelling of the life of a designer who had found a footing in the city that represents success, fame, and entertainment industry.

Behind his fancy lifestyles and glittering clothes is hollowness and substance abuse. In the pursuit of money, originality and art has no place. Prtty Ridiculous’s piercing lyricism paints a vivid character while pushing the discovery further. His emo, gut-wrenching melodies are wrapped in an explosive, distorted noise and electronic glitch. Catchy and addictive, but also helplessly emotive.

With a speck of psychedelia, “Hollywood Lies” so powerfully reflects the surreality and almost illusion-like nature of a city. How do you not see it? How do you live inside it? Like a restless monster that swallows you in and spits you out, in which you have become a shell of your former self. There’s a monster being visualized from the sonics, one without face, one that is artificial. In the end, what is the real villain? That’s another layer in Prtty Ridiculous’s “Hollywood Lies.”

There’s no doubt that Prtty Ridiculous is a serious artist, one who is versatile and is committed to saying something that matters. His musicality and creativity are without question, and he uses it well with a purpose.
