MattGodin “One Man Show”

Written in a hotel room, during a time of isolation and disconnection, “One Man Show” tackles the light and heavy of mental health. Going through depression and other mental health-related issues has a draining heaviness that one can’t seem to escape. One is screaming and crying for help, but on the surface, no one seems to notice. Like being trapped deep under and all others could see is only the edge of an iceberg. There’s an inescapable duality in that dynamic, and MattGodin does it so well to capture it in his music, through the bouncy beats and addictive earworm of melodies, yet his words bear that heaviness and struggle.

There are so many layers in “One Man Show” that one can really delve deep into. Sonically, the track adheres to MattGodin’s signature groovy pulsation and lush sonics. His deeply captivating vocals and unmistakable flow are heartstoppers. There’s no stop listening after a song when it comes to MattGodin’s music. You just keep going, one after another. In that sense, his music is really addictive, in a good way.

“One Man Show” may have grown from a place of loneliness, but the song makes people feel less alone. You never feel alone listening to his music. The silky mix of creative vibe, gets-you-better-than-your-mom storytelling and an inevitable touch of devil-may-dare is everything to love about this artist.

Check out our interview with MattGodin where he tells us one thing you definitely didn’t know.
