Koburg “Beauty In The Fight”
“Beauty in the Fight” is a smashing, beautiful revival. Koburg takes listeners on a journey that begins at a battlefield. It’s a rite of passage full of challenges, but “Beauty in the Fight” is cathartic and thought provoking. Koburg’s storytelling is vulnerable and full of strength. Despite the difficulties, there’s courage and the determination to come out to the other side. “Beauty in the Fight” is where meaningful melodies meet epic soundscapes. The track connects to people who are going through similar experience in the most honest way. A transparency of real struggle and real strength writes into this storm of elegance and turmoil, while the chorus feels like a moment of epiphany, a tearful and long-waited embrace that hits hard when you least expect.
At the time of writing, Koburg was in a battle with herself, dealing with challenges and limitations in her personal and professional life. She was waging a war at the world and herself. The turmoil of conflicts then becomes the epic soundscapes in “Beauty in the Fight.” It has all the anger, the frustration, and the pain, but in the song, they are in the background of the battlefield. The story lies between Koburg and her guitar, as they are the fearless warrior who accepted the challenge and courageously entered the fight. And this isn’t just another fight. It’s one that’s necessary, one with meaning. She’s fighting for herself and for what she loves, and it’s all in the sonics and the builtup, which makes “Beauty in the Fight” not like any other symphonic metal song.
To Koburg, the writing for “Beauty in the Fight” is therapeutic. It transformed her perception and helped her come to term with those challenges. That’s where the powerful realization and the shift of energy happens in the chorus. “Beauty in the Fight” has so much power and determination.
In our interview below, we chat with Koburg about her journey writing “Beauty In The Fight.” The artist also gave us a glimpse of the theme for her upcoming album Hell for the mind. Stay tuned!
Punk Head: I love how epic and cinematic “Beauty In The Fight” is. What inspired you to write this song?
Koburg: Thank you so much! “Beauty In The Fight” was inspired by some personal battles I was facing at the time of writing. In fact, that seems to be more of a running theme for my new album Hell for the mind, but great for creativity!
There was a lot going on with my then relationship, health issues and trying to find the balance between my desires and what is possible. I struggle with that duality. Having agoraphobia and ME means there can be a tendency for me to write checks my body can't possibly cash. I went through a stage while writing this song, where I was raging at the world and raging at myself.
The writing and recording sessions for “Beauty In The Fight” helped me to come to terms with my limitations and find acceptance. Perhaps even embrace those challenges as they are a part of me. I suppose it was a kind of therapy.
PH: What do you like the best about this track?
Koburg: The chorus is the part that really excites me. I think I nailed it. The lyrics in particular. I'm my harshest critic and really worked hard to get it where I wanted it to be. My frame of mind at the time of writing, made it sometimes hard to see the wood from the trees. But I'm so happy with the end result. It lifts and soars and I love that in a song.
PH: What is your creative vision as an artist?
Koburg: My creative vision is to really just bring my own flavour to Symphonic Metal. There is so much amazing talent out there, I just want to be a part of that. I aim to continue writing music which I feel passionate about and perhaps provoke thoughts and bring people joy. I like to write about the human condition and reach out to listeners in that way. I hope they can relate to my words and that the music will connect us.
PH: Who are your biggest influences?
Koburg: My biggest influences are Billy Joel, Queen, Sisters Of Mercy, Metallica, Rammstein and Depeche Mode. I know that somewhat surprises people, as that doesn't necessarily come across as obvious in my music. But it's small key elements from each band/artist. Listening to them since early childhood, thanks to my parents' taste in music, has definitely contributed to the tapestry of my songs.
PH: What is the one thing that you’d like your fans to know about you?
Koburg: I'd like my fans to know that I love and appreciate every single one of them. They give me the strength to push through the obstacles in my way and keep on fighting. I'm incredibly grateful for the many smiles they give me
