Dubh Lee “Holly Would”

Sometimes, we find the most soulful expression in its bleakest form. And it speaks for the latest release from Dubh Lee. “Holly Would” touches on domestic violence, systemic oppression and patriarchy with barebone vulnerability. Inspired by Lee’s upbringing as a woman and a musician in Ireland, the track delves into the psycho-horror of womanhood.

“Holly Would” speaks about the various types of abuse subjected to women by men. In the song, Lee pulls the strings from both verbal and non-verbal vocal expressions, mended to form a woman’s primal scream that all women would resonate deeply in their bones.

“Holly Would” is no doubt a dark repertoire, but it’s the scream that we all need to hear and feel. Lee lyrically choreographed every woman’s nightmare in vivid sonic landscapes, but the only way to overcome fear and terror is to confront them and vocalize them. And that’s what “Holly Would” is about. As terrified as it is cathartic, Lee sets free the darkest horror that she holds with her soul and body through this song and creates a safe space for others to do so.

“Holly Would” is the second single released from Lee’s debut EP, Animals and Friends, set to release on April 28. Lee will also be touring across Ireland from April through May.
