Noora On the Making Of “Butterfly”

What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of "Butterfly?"

♡ The last few years around the world have changed a lot for a lot of people. One of the big challenges that followed, was that many people lost themselves a little bit. All the way from losing their purpose and forgetting their direction to neglecting themselves. For many people, there wasn't as much point in getting up. There was a constant struggle, and constant obstacles. It's times like these that define us. We have to tap into our internal strength. Butterfly is really all about taking control and winning. It's about valuing yourself, bettering yourself, and harnessing your power. Your true power, which is self-belief. When creating Butterfly, I was really in my boss's b*tch energy and my hope is that every single listener feels that vibe and feels powerful themselves.

What do you enjoy most about making "Butterfly?"

♡ Honestly, the whole process of creating music is amazing. It's the love of my life. I'm lucky I get to work with incredible people. The producers on this track, Heikki Anttonen, MUGE, and Nikolai Alho were pretty much a dream team. Heikki Anttonen is a long-time producer of mine, greatly talented with multi-platinum tracks in Finland, and he's just an incredible friend. All of our sessions are filled with good vibes. MUGE, a relatively fresh producer, is such a good person. He's got amazing ears and vision and for his age, 18, he's insanely talented as well. Finally, Nikolai, my older brother jumped on one of my tracks for the first time, and that was definitely a good moment. He has the ability to add magic to any track really, and that's what he did with Butterfly.

How did you work with the producer or engineers to bring your vision for "Butterfly" to life?

♡ I'm always very much involved when my tracks are produced. I sit next to the producer(s) and just take it all in. Whenever we create, we bounce off of each other. It's really just different ideas bouncing around the studio and whenever something feels magical, we keep it. It's the best feeling.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started in music?

♡ I was born in Finland and adopted by a British mother and Finnish father at 5 weeks old. With my mum being English, X-Factor UK was always a big show in our home. One of my earliest inspirations in music was 2006 winner, Leona Lewis. I think seeing someone who resembled me a little (mixed race) do so well just flipped a switch in me. Back then, especially living in Finland, a small country with a very white music scene at the time, it was important for me to see what was possible. From then on I just never stopped creating music, it's become like oxygen to me.

Looking ahead, what are your long-term goals and aspirations as a musician?

♡ As long as I'm getting better every day, I'm happy. In the music industry today, consistency is key, and that's something I need to work on. Life hasn't been the easiest for me lately. I cared for my dad for a while and lost him last summer... so you know, life can get in the way. Now, I'm back to tunnel vision. 110% focused, so we'll see what's born.

My most important goal in music... In creating and bringing art to life, is that it adds value to people. Whenever I write songs I'm always very aware of what feeling I want it to spark within my listeners. With butterfly, it's power.
