Brett Benowitz On the Making Of “Take Back Your Life”

How does "Take Back Your Life" reflect your musical journey and growth as an artist?

I think it just shows that I’ve reached a new level in my songwriting ability. To me, good songwriting is all about saying something meaningful that is reinforced through the music and I think this song nails it. I look at this song and older ones I’ve written and it makes me proud of the progress I’ve made.

What impact do you hope this song will have on your audience?

I hope people will just enjoy it but also that it will subconsciously inspire them to find more meaning in their lives rather than their phones. I hope it will help people remember how powerful they truly are. I hope it will wake people up.

What did you enjoy most about making "Take Back Your Life?"

I really enjoyed it when I first started writing it and the chorus took form and I just belted “Take back your life”!! I just knew this song was special after that.

Where do you find inspiration for your songs or musical ideas?

Everywhere. Usually in the things I grapple with internally. Making songs is how I make sense of my internal world.

What do you enjoy most about performing live and connecting with your audience?

Just the energy. I feel like I transform onstage and become someone else, like an elevated version of Brett and its just so fun to give it all I got every time I perform.
