Dirty Slippers On the Making Of “Wide Open”

What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of "Wide Open?"

Well, we are from Hungary, which is a historical country in Middle Europe. I realized there are a lot of people who have depression and mental problems. Sometimes I felt myself in the situation and I thought, that's the perfect time to give an energy bomb - motivation song to the audience. Not in a shitty commonplace form, but rather a "one man army" feeling with much power and "we are in the same shoes" way.

What are you most proud about "Wide Open?"

The single just released on 22 August and hit the city radio charts in Manchester and Canberra, Australia just like the previous single called "Honest kid". But, I am most proud of the Planet Rock Radio premiere in the UK. That's the biggest rock radio station there and a lot of people wrote amazing messages to us after this debut.

Have you noticed any particular interpretations or connections that listeners have made with "Wide Open?"

Yes, a lot of fans said, this is our best song. Honestly, we recorded and released the Hungarian version in 2019 and a lot of Hungarian radios play that version to the present day, so I am happy because I feel we help people's lives with this energy bomb single.

What has been the most memorable experience or achievement in your music career so far?

That was a lot! We played more than 1000 shows in 10 European countries, recorded an album at Abbey Road, and the first one in the United States. With my music, I was able to reach ten countries on two continents, which not many people in Hungary can say about themselves. I am extremely grateful to God for that. Our gigs in London and Hamburg, and last year at the Cultural Palace in Arad were unforgettable!

How do you balance the artistic aspects of your music with the business side of the industry?

That's not a big deal to us, because I managed the "company" behind the band. I have a PR office in Hungary and have my own radio show, so I learned a lot about the business side from the first year, which was 15 years ago. The people around us are great, and not money-hungry, so our artistic vein is not damaged, we could focus on the songs and the management things at the same time. Our great producers like George Shilling (Oasis, Frank Turner) and Tim Palmer (U2, Bon Jovi, Goo Goo Dolls) know exactly how to make what we want to hear come true! So we are really grateful to them.
